Welcome to The Honest Travel Blog! We’re Alessia and Matthew, a travel obsessed couple from Dublin, Ireland. In October 2024, we left behind our 9-to-5 lives to embark on a big adventure. With just a one-way ticket to Mexico, we set off with open hearts and open minds, excited to see where the journey will take us.

Why “The Honest Travel Blog”?

After years of traveling and relying on travel blogs and vlogs to plan our trips, we realized that some of the most helpful information is what goes beyond the guidebook. We wanted to create a space where travelers can find practical tips to plan their trips and also prepare for the cultural nuances and unique experiences each destination has to offer. The Honest Travel Blog is our way of providing travel advice that’s down-to-earth, culturally aware, and respectful.

With backgrounds in Sociology and Social Policy (BA) and International Humanitarian Action (MSc), we bring a unique perspective to our travels. We love to dive deep into each destination’s cultural richness, appreciating the diversity and uniqueness of every place we visit. This awareness shapes how we travel, inspiring us to prioritise ethical practices that respect both people and the planet.
